Why SJS?

We instill in students the value of service to others.

Test Scores & Achievements

Each February our 5th and 8th grade students take the NCEA IFG: Acre Edition (Assessment of Children/Youth Religious Education (ACRE).

This program was developed by the National Catholic Educational Association to:

  • Serve as a tool for assessing the effectiveness of catechetical / religious education programs
  • To summarize how well students in grade 5 (Level 1), grade 8 (Level 2) have learned the basic teachings of the Catholic church in the preceding years
  • To assess the religious beliefs, attitudes, practices, and perceptions of students in these grades
  • To provide information about areas of strength in catechetical/religious education programs as well as areas of weakness that may need additional attention or improvement.

NWEA MAP

St. Joseph School and all Catholic schools in the Diocese of Owensboro administer NWEA MAP (Measures of Academic Progress). At St. Joseph School the test is administered to Grades Kindergarten through Grade 7. This test is a computerized test that is completed in the computer lab or on Ipads. All students complete tests in the areas of Reading and Math. In addition, Grades 3 through 7 complete tests for Language Usage and Science. The test is administered before Fall Break, in January, and after Spring Break. Teachers use the results to individualize instruction and to monitor student growth.

ACT ASPIRE

The ACT Aspire Test was administered to Eighth Grade students in the spring of 2017. This test is part of the college readiness program from the publishers of the ACT test. This test is web-based. ACT Aspire assesses student readiness in English, Reading, Math, Science, and Writing. The National Percentile Rank below shows how our eighth grade students performed in comparison to other eighth grade students in the nation.

For example, if the median English score is at the 84th percentile, the typical student in this group achieved as well as or better than 84% of the students in the nation.
