The Morning Offering
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world.
I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart:
the salavation of souls, reparation for sin, the reunion of all Christians.
I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all Apostles of Prayer, and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month. Amen.
The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was curcified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
The Act of Contrition
Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all of my sins because of Your just punishments, but most of all because I have offended You, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all of my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more, to do penance and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.

The Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so
much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to
eternal life.

5TH GRADE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
HOMEWORK:
We believe homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in the classroom. We give homework because it is useful in reinforcing what has been covered in class, preparing students for upcoming lessons and tests, extending and generalizing concepts, teaching responsibility, and helping students develop positive study habits. This is also important so that each student will be prepared for class discussion and note taking. Studying of notes and/or vocabulary is an essential part of homework each day. It is our goal that the students will develop good study skills by reviewing their notes daily, rather than waiting until the night before the test.
Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Depending on the student, homework should take no more than about fifty minutes to complete each night. Reading for Literature class may not be included in this time, because of the time given during the school day. If your student is consistently taking more than fifty minutes to complete their homework you may want to schedule a conference. I am for fifty minutes or less, but this is highly dependent on factors outside of my control (i.e. study habits, focus in class, etc.). I expect students to complete work on their own. If your child does need help, feel free to guide them, but, please do not provide answers! Please, do make sure that the work is done corrrectly and neatly!
If a student misses school due to illness or an emergency, homework should be made up in a timely manner. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what they have missed. Homework is posted on the board in the classroom and other assignments will be written down to be given to student as well.
ASSIGNMENT BOOKS: In order to aid in successful completion of homework, each student is given an assignment book. All assignments are written on a chart/board in the class and time is given to copy these in their books. It is the students’ responsibility to bring this book home everyday and return it to school each morning.
GRADING PROCEDURE: Grades will be posted on the internet on a weekly basis. Homework grades, daily work, and writing grades will each be averaged at the end of the quarter, so they will not show up until that time. Any assignment that is turned in late will receive an immediate 5% penalty for each day not turned in. No assignment will be accepted beyond one week late. Students are notified several times before cut off date of any missing assignment.
SCHOOL/HOME COMMUNICATION:
Students will use their Daily Communication Folder (orange) to bring home graded papers, (Fridays only), newsletters, homework assignments, permission slips, and etc. In turn, please use this folder to send lunch money, field trip money, tuition/SACC and any other communication to the teacher. Some assignments may ask for a parent’s signature and then be returned. The St. Joseph Scene will be sent on Wednesday. Teacher websites may be viewed for class activities and other important happenings. Snapgrades are used for parents and students to keep track of grades as well as what assignments may be missing. Parents may also send messages through Snapgrades if the need arises.
