6 Religion

Text: Blest Are We (Silver Burdett Ginn Religion/RCL); Family Life (Benziger/RCL)

Description: Sixth grade students will explore the story of salvation rooted in the Old Testament beginning with God’s revelation to Abraham and Sarah and ending the year with the Jewish struggles in the years prior the birth of the Messiah. Family Life is a value-based program that focuses on moral responsibility and respecting God’s gift of life, correlated to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, taught in cooperation with the parents. Topics for 6th grade include family background and traits, self-knowledge, showing respect, birth and death, family economics, and global responsibility.

Goals:

Enrich the prayer life of the students; Indentify and encourage participation in service to Church and community

Deepen students understanding of the Catholic faith and doctrine;

Gain an appreciation of the Bible as the written Word of God

Evaluation: Grades will be taken on chapter tests, unit tests after every 4th chapter, projects, and homework assignments including quarterly reports.

7 Religion

Text: Call to Faith (Harcourt Religion Publishers); Family Life (Benziger)

Description: Seventh grade students are presented with the core elements of the faith based on Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Liturgical catechesis includes prayer, worship, and celebration, encouraging lifelong learning and development. Family Life is a value-based program that focuses on moral responsibility and respecting God’s gift of life, correlated to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, taught in cooperation with the parents. Topics for 7th grade include family relationships, gender identity, consequences, wellness, Christian living, values, and virtues.

Indentify and encourage participation in service to Church and community

Deepen students understanding of the Catholic faith and doctrine

Evaluation: Grades will be taken on chapter quizzes, unit tests after every 3rd chapter, projects, and homework assignments including quarterly reports.

Topics for 8th grade include self-understanding, emotions, marriage and family life, health, social relationships, and growing in Christ

Evaluation: Grades will be taken on chapter quizzes, unit tests after every 3rd chapter, projects, and homework assignments including quarterly reports.
